Throughout the years, all founding members of Dog Days of Charlotte had been involved in various animal rescue work.
In April of 2010, Leah Lenox and husband Erich Podzinski, were managing a booth at an Animal Expo located in the Bank of America Corporate Center of downtown Charlotte, NC. This is where paths crossed with Aleah Haene and childhood friend, Carly Robinson who instantly saw promise in their mission to rescue dogs from high-kill shelters in the area. Sparks flew and ideas ran with the many ways of how their joined forces could impact the community.
The mission began to expand when a regular foster, Colin Feehan desired to become a dedicated member in 2011 and they officially became Dog Days of Charlotte, Inc. In 2012, Laura Towns joined the group, completing the official Dog Days of Charlotte Board of Directors, which then led to obtaining a 501(c)(3) non-profit status. All six members have become essential parts of the Dog Days of Charlotte team and assume many responsibilities on top of their professional and personal lives.
In addition to the board members, Monica Bandstra plays a significant role in the organization, serving as a transporter for a majority of the dogs we save from shelters, as well as assisting with coordinating vetting and out of state transports. Other dedicated volunteers like Melinda Hamby, Diana Messier, Emily LeClair, and Elaine Park have taken on various roles over the years, helping with the day to day behind the scenes administration and coordination. And of course we also couldn’t have such a strong, solid team without our dedicated fosters and supporters!
Dog Days of Charlotte is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. All donations are tax exempt.
